Géza Alföldy Digital Project

Alföldy Géza (1935, Budapest – 2011, Athens) was one of the most i0 Rmportant scholars of the XX. century, known also as “Mommsen of our ages”.  A brilliant epigraphist and historian of the Roman society, his massive contribution to the historiography of Roman history will be inevitable also for the next generations.

The promotion and saving the memory of his work, scientific and cultural heritage is very important. Gaining the attention of the younger generations and presenting his work by modern social networks was our first step. For this, I founded a facebook page for professor Alföldy, which became well – known also in the academic field (Opuscula Epigraphica 15, 2013, 39.note 35). The page was presented also on the first EAGLE conference on Digital Epigraphy in 2014 September.

The next step will be the digitization of some well known or unpublished works of Alföldy. You can find some already on his academia.edu webpage.
